Human Trafficking for Social Workers

Social workers have a unique and valuable role in the fight against human trafficking. Join Jasmine and Erica as they share their firsthand professional and personal experiences within the field of social work. They will explore how social workers have the potential to impact identification, intervention, and prevention spaces. This training will provide valuable insights on the unique needs of survivors within the therapeutic space, disparities in treatment, and what a survivor really needs to be ‘free’.

Jasmine Myers currently serves as Case Manager Coordinator and Social Work Intern at Alternative Paths in Medina, Ohio. Jasmine serves on the Survivor Advisory Council with the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking. Jasmine is completing her final semester and will obtain her Master’s in Science of Social Administration. Jasmine is dedicated to advocating, supporting, and building relationships with survivors as they heal. Jasmine is passionate about bringing awareness to the community and empowering survivors to have their voices heard.

Erica Howard, BSW, MSW, LSW has over 25 years of organizational leadership experience and has spent the last 10 years working with (victims/survivors) of trafficking in various capacities. She has engaged in communities for equitable change and has worked closely with individuals who have experienced trauma in various forms. Her experience and training are centered around trauma informed care and competence in working with individuals and communities that have experienced trauma. She currently works for Empower Her Network as an advocate with victims to overcome barriers that prevent them from reaching economic independence as well as with Free to Be as a counselor and Director of Collective Impact and Engagement.
